Tapfood

“I have one kidney, half a bowel and DVT but i’m still going strong and I refuse to let cancer ruin my life.” – Greg Trout

I totally agree: Het leven is veel te kort en onvoorspelbaar, so enjoy every moment!

Mr. and Mrs. van Hout

As you might have noticed, I’m totally in love with innovative all-in-one concepts, this implies concepts that are inspiring and have future potential. A while agoo I discovered a concept like this in Tilburg called Meneer en Mevrouw van Hout.

Hanneke van Hout and Don van Hout created through common interests in the field of interior design, styling, photography and art a wonderful store together.
Mrs. Van Hout attended the education advertising and presentation techniques and the design academy, she also worked as a visual merchandiser at my all time favorite store Urban Outfitters. Her husband Mr. van Hout is a freelance photographer with a passion for photographing, rebuilding old and creating new things. Out of these combined talents the concept was born.
Mr. & Mrs. Van hout are there for anyone who is looking for design products that are also affordable, they would like to lower the threshold to design. At the store (which by the way is beautifully decorated, just entering is a feast!) you can buy and rent cool products, furniture and you can watch exhibitions of photographers, illustrators and artists.
Beside the shop Mr. And Mrs. Van Hout own an atelier where they create designs under their own label and restore vintage stuff into unique furniture. This all-round power couple also gives styling and interior advice to individuals and businesses.

BUUTVRIJ is a new creative hotspot in the center of Tilburg where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or a tasty lunch. All their dishes are made with fresh, organic and healthy ingredients.
To me this spot looks like a cozy living room, they have got good coffee, free wifi, the interior is inspiring and you gotta love the creative atmosphere.
BUUTVRIJ is also a showcase for young designers, artists and music makers. There is a monthly changing exhibition of art, design, furniture and other attributes designed by students and graduates of the Design Academy. You can buy all of these products, furniture and artwork at the bar. The owners of BUUTVRIJ love good music and lend a hand to new musicians by playing their music in the cafe and provide an open stage for acoustic sessions.

Last thursday I visited their christmas popup market with fellow blogger Culinien. We had such a good time! There was music, delicous food, (vintage) clothing and artwork. I personally adored the illustrated art of Liekeland. Check it out:

What do you think of the initiative of a pop up christmas market? Is this the future of christmas markets?

I wish you all a very merry creative christmas! Hope you will enjoy it with lots of friends, family and good food!

N8MAKERS

A while ago I was invited to a night of brainstorming, the only thing I knew before that it was about an unknown heritage with eight others at an unique location.
The n8makers gathered on Friday, November 8th at 11am on Oisterwijk station. Blindfolded and excited they drove into the night, on our way to the unknown..

After a wild ride, the n8makers arrived at an abandoned construction site. With only a flashlight and eachother, they explored the dark area and finally arrived at a large factory. After a short history lesson of an heritage expert, the n8makers learned that it used to be the biggest leather tannery in Europe.
Then it was time for some teambuilding, I found out that there were n8makers with all kinds of talents, there were students carpenters, students of architecture, engineering, graphic design and then there was me myself and I from International Lifestyle Studies.

I think it was a brilliant idea from the organization of the n8makers to put such different students together to think about the innovation of heritage, we formed an unique combination.
The n8makers started the night with some handicraft, teams were put together and the eight letters of the n8makers arose. After that it was time to put the brains to work, while drinking liters red bull and eating energybars the n8makers tried to squeeze as many ideas as they could out off their sleepy heads. The n8makers got the instruction to find as much as possible sollutions for the redevelopment of the “Leerlokaal” a place where youth and craft should come together.

The fundamental question:
How can we ensure that the leatherlocal is a place where young people (16-24 years old) like to come to meet, to create, to learn from each other and to experiment with technique and craft?

bord

In teams of two, the n8makers were asked to think out of the box to find solutions for this question. I worked together with carpenter Joep, a super fun and informative experience because Joep had a totally different view than me, together we came on innovative ideas.
At the end of the night three main ideas emerged: The idea factory, Workhouse, and the idea of me and Joep: Old versus New. The philosophy behind our idea is that young and old can learn with each other from eachother in the leatherlocal. Older people have knowledge of the craft process and can pass it on to the younger generation, the young generation is aware of new technology and can pass this on to the elderly.

When the sun came up and the birds began to whistle, all the letters had been fully written by the n8makers. Every creative cell in their bodies was drained and it was time for an well deserved breakfast with the counciler of Oisterwijk, who was very curious about what the n8makers had done all night.

(excuse for the bad quality picture, it was early in the morning for the photographer too…)

For me this was an once in a lifetime experience, working together on such a cool project, at a crazy time, with unknown but awesome people was innovative and surprising. It was a challenge to stay up 24/7 (and be productive) some people asked me after; how did you hold on till 8am?! The answer is energy and motivation (okay not totally true, also a lot of coffee and redbull) At some the point you just don’t feel tired anymore because everyone is super excited and working towards the goal, I got really motivated out of it and the night flew by!

So what’s next? Ideas are put together and worked out by organization of the n8makers. One thing is certain; the n8makers have taken the first step to make this historical place even more historic, what happened this night may contribute to a bright future of heritage..

To be continued… Follow on twitter: @n8makers

Multifunctional skincare

I think this concept is one for the future. The movie says it all, if you can’t understand the dutch, I will explain it to you: Oolaboo nutricosmetics is a company that believes that the combination of inside and outside care can improve your beauty.
Before I studied Lifestyle I was a beautician, at my previcous education I learned everything about the human body and how to take care of it on the outside.
I have a sensitive skin myself and in the past I tried many cosmetics against problem skin, they were never successful so I am always on the hunt for concepts that can improve it.
Several recent scientific studies show that eating the right foods can contribute to a beautiful skin, I can confirm that a varied diet can improve your beauty. I always got tons of energy when I eat healthy and it shows directly on my skin and hair.
Oolaboo products have the aim to optimize the overall health of the body, the products contain nourishing ingredients that can be eaten but can also be used on the skin. Instead of paraben they use active nutrients and preservatives which are also used in food. The products are also made without without PEG, mineral oils, silicones and phthalates so a safe and natural choice for your skin!

A while ago I did a food allergy test and found out that I was intolerant for lots of foods. I stopped eating the products that I was allergic to and since then my skin looks better than ever so you can understand that I truly believe in the power of inner and outer beauty.

You can find nutricosmedicals (nutrition + cosmetics + medical) at the best beauty institutes, spas and wellness resorts.
